New Act sections guide

The Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act) was updated in 2018 and is now easier to navigate and understand. It has 10 principal parts and decimal numbering for all provisions (legal conditions). We have moved some detailed provisions to schedules and the regulations where appropriate.

The Amendments to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 new references (PDF, 343 KB) table lists the former section numbers and the corresponding sections after the EP&A Act was updated. It includes the sections planning practitioners use most frequently.

While we encourage stakeholders to update their forms and templates whenever the sections of an Act are renumbered, the regulations provide that a reference to an old section is a reference to a new one. This means that you can continue to use forms and templates with old section numbers.
