Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner Scheme

As of 1 July 2022, all environmental impact statements (EIS) for state significant development (SSD) and state significant infrastructure (SSI) projects need to be reviewed by a Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner (REAP).

Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner

A REAP is a qualified and skilled environmental assessment practitioner who has been certified under an accredited REAP scheme. There are currently two REAP scheme accreditors:

Purpose of the scheme

The REAP scheme is part of the Rapid Assessment Framework, a suite of system improvements that will increase the efficiency and quality of major project assessments.

REAPs will ensure that the EIS for projects is prepared to a high standard and includes all the necessary information for the department to assess each project, helping projects move more efficiently through the planning process.

To find out more about the REAP scheme visit the NSW Planning Portal and view the Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner Guidelines.

For more information on the Rapid Assessment Framework, including commencement dates and transitional arrangements, refer to the Planning circular – PS 21-005 – Changes to State significant development and State significant infrastructure (PDF, 115 KB).
