The NSW Regional Housing Fund (RHF) was announced by the Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW and Minister for Planning and Minister for Homes on 3 February 2022.

This $30 million grant program will provide funding to eligible large regional councils to deliver new infrastructure upgrades and public and open space projects that directly support the delivery of new housing supply. Funding is available to the eligible councils that can demonstrate a commitment to address the recommendations of the Regional Housing Taskforce at a local level before 31 December 2022.

The objectives of the Regional Housing Fund are to:

  • unblock and accelerate new housing capacity in regional NSW
  • bring forward construction and the opportunity for jobs and economic activity in the short to medium term
  • support investment in critical development infrastructure and high-quality public and open spaces.

Fourteen councils have been approved to participate in the program so far to address the recommendations of the Regional Housing Taskforce. These councils will have until 3 June to nominate new infrastructure and public space projects for funding.

The RHF sits alongside existing Infrastructure Funding such as the Low Cost Loans Initiative and NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program to support the continued delivery of high-quality infrastructure and public and open spaces to support growing communities.
