In 2018 Lane Cove Council exhibited a planning proposal for St Leonards South. The proposal would allow for higher density residential development in the area.

We asked the Independent Planning Commission NSW (IPC) to review the proposal and ensure it was consistent with our Draft 2036 Plan.

What’s happened so far?

The IPC held a public meeting to listen to the community’s views on both the planning proposal and our Draft 2036 Plan. The IPC have factored in the community’s views during their review.

The IPC released their advice in July 2019 and in light of this we worked with Lane Cove Council to review the planning proposal.

We attended a design charrette along with Lane Cove Council, Government Architect NSW (GANSW), Greater Sydney Commission (GSC) and three independent State Design Review Panel (SDRP) members.

The purpose of the design charrette was to have a structured conversation with Lane Cove Council on the proposal and direction for St Leonards South.

We developed a series of outcomes and recommendations based on the outcomes of the design charrette, key recommendations made by GANSW and SDRP members and IPC’s advice.

What’s happening next?

Lane Cove Council will be responsible for considering our outcomes and recommendations and determine if they require amendments to their planning proposal.

We will also use these outcomes and recommendations when finalising our 2036 Plan.
