Have your say on future Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct
The NSW Government has released draft plans and a discussion paper for community feedback that will guide the development of the Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct.
The Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct Master Plan was finalised in July last year.
It outlines a 40-year vision for a year-round tourist destination with new business opportunities, services, and community infrastructure for the people that live, work and visit the region.
The Department of Planning and Environment, in collaboration with Regional NSW, National Parks and Wildlife Service and Snowy Monaro Regional Council, has recently prepared the Snowy Mountains Delivery Plan, Jindabyne Development Control Plan (DCP), Alpine DCP, Alpine Community Participation Plan and a discussion paper.
These documents include a range of required amendments to guidelines and legislation to deliver on the master plan.
It also includes a new complying development pathway to reduce the volume of non-complex development applications waiting long periods to be assessed.
Feedback received during the exhibition period will be reviewed and used to finalise the DCPs and Delivery Plan by mid-2024.
For more information and to provide feedback until Wednesday 20 December, visit the NSW Planning Portal.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:
“We want to better understand the community's views, including how the right mix of housing can be put in place to attract new residents, young families, and seasonal workers.
"Minimum affordable housing requirements for key sites in Jindabyne are also proposed to be introduced to address demand in the area and we’re keen to hear your feedback.”
Minister for Regional New South Wales Tara Moriarty said:
“The Government has allocated $196 million towards the Snowy Mountains SAP and the community feedback will guide where those funds are best invested to deliver the most positive impact.
“The Snowy region is a special part of the state and I look forward to community feedback through the Have Your Say process.”
Member for Monaro Steve Whan said:
“The Jindabyne community has put a lot of effort into planning for the SAP and getting the planning framework right is at the core of delivering benefits for the community.
"The documents reflect years of discussion and will help to provide a 40-year framework for Jindabyne with a critical focus on housing affordability, accommodation for seasonal and key workers, and a vision for a community.”
