Sydney Metro’s State Significant Infrastructure (SSI) application for the Sydenham to Bankstown upgrade was approved in December 2018. A full list of the conditions of infrastructure approval is available at Major Projects.
Sydney Metro proposes to upgrade 13 km of the Sydney Trains T3 Bankstown Line and convert 10 stations between Sydenham and Bankstown to metro standards.
This upgrade is part of the Sydney Metro rail network which consists of Sydney Metro Northwest (between Tallawong and Chatswood) and Sydney Metro City & Southwest (between Chatswood and Bankstown). For more information on the overall Sydney Metro project, read the Sydney Metro Overview.
A modification application to revise the station design at Bankstown has been submitted to provide a new north-south connection across the rail corridor that aligns with and connects at-grade to The Appian Way and Restwell Street which aligns with the City of Canterbury-Bankstown’s plans for Bankstown Town Centre.
The revised design will require the removal of the parcels office on the southern side of the station.
Modification application consultation
The modification application is currently under assessment.
The application was exhibited between 21 May 2020 and 4 June 2020.
The department received feedback from the community, government agencies and other stakeholders during the public exhibition period. This feedback will be taken into consideration as part of the assessment.

Next steps
Following the exhibition, we will consider all community submissions received, along with feedback from other government agencies and councils, as part of the assessment process.
