The Snowy Mountains is one of 6 special activation precincts across NSW that have been identified to become thriving business hubs.
The Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct master plan, outlines a 40-year strategy to bring together planning and investment, boosting jobs and economic activity. It was finalised on 1 July 2022.
A budget of $391.3 million from the NSW Government will deliver the precinct and enable the region to become a year-round tourism destination and the nation’s alpine capital.
We based the master plan on technical studies that assessed possible environmental effects on heritage, sustainability and infrastructure. We also took in community feedback.
The Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct contains the Jindabyne catalyst and growth precincts, plus the Alpine Precinct.
We are preparing a Jindabyne Catalyst Precinct delivery plan, Jindabyne Growth Precinct development control plan (DCP) and alpine DCP to guide development.
The Jindabyne Catalyst Precinct comprises 5 sub-precincts containing opportunities to promote the broader special activation precinct.
We are working with the Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation to prepare the Jindabyne Catalyst Precinct delivery plan. It includes:
- preparing detailed designs
- consulting stakeholders
- inviting tenders to design and construct infrastructure
- starting construction.
The Jindabyne Growth Precinct comprises 7 sub-precincts that will support the increase in visitor and resident populations projected for the 40 years of the master plan.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council will work with us to prepare the Jindabyne Growth Precinct DCP.
The Alpine Precinct comprises 12 sub-precincts containing existing lease and licence areas focused on tourism attractions and accommodation.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service will help us prepare the Alpine Precinct DCP.
