Births and deaths remained stable

Births and deaths have both remained stable throughout the first year of the pandemic.

Unlike many other countries, Australia’s number of COVID-related deaths have remained relatively low and not had an effect on overall life expectancy.

Birth rates were going down before the pandemic and have continued to go down. Given the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, we expect birth rates to stay relatively low over the next year or 2.
